| A few months ago, my oldest daughter graduated from Harvard with a degree in law. While the new ESQ after her name was a source of pride and evidence of accomplishment, her father and I had mixed feelings when she decided to accept a position in Delaware. We have lived in Atlanta all of our adult lives and raised our daughter in the very same home. Now, we had a more “cosmopolitan” adult child and, as well, the task of moving her 26 years of life to another state. It was clearly time to find a long distance moving company. Having never moved myself, I was stumped! Cost of services has certainly always been a guide as I make decisions related to contracting with others. On the other hand, quality is equally as important. As I set about to locate a moving company, my ignorance was evident. I began with a Google search for moving companies and quickly realized that I could spend days calling and setting up appointments for bids. In addition, I had no idea about checking references or obtaining information about a company’s reputation. Ultimately, I took the advice of a friend who had moved to California, and accessed www.localmovers.com. This site was an absolute blessing, because it contained answers to all of my questions and allowed me to provide all of the details of the pending move, before it performed a search for me. What I found was that all moving companies associated with www.localmovers.com were carefully screened and their services tracked over a several-year period. What this site contained, then, was a listing of companies that met their strict standards for performance, and that please me greatly! The process for selection of a long distance moving company was actually quite easy. I was able to define the need in detail, and then simply wait for the site to produce a short list of solid moving companies. This reduced my leg work significantly, and I was able to contact three “finalists” for a bid. The other wonderful aspect of this site is the wealth of information available to “newbies” like me. There are great articles on packing fragile items, if one decides to do it in order to save on costs. Other articles relate to organizing household goods prior to the movers’ arrival, transporting pets, and consideration of large items, such as pool tables. In fact, this site provides a complete moving guide, email quotes from movers, and even maintains a blog on which individuals can post their own comments, suggestions, and experiences. There was so much valuable information that I found no need to seek information elsewhere. An additional, but important service, for me was the assistance with locating a local storage unit in Delaware. It became apparent that my daughter’s first rental condo would not accommodate everything she had accumulated over the years; on the other hand, it was important that all of her things were re-located, so that she could sort and make decisions as time went on. Having all of her belongings in storage locally was the perfect solution to that problem! My daughter came to Atlanta for a quick and intense session of making decisions relative to what would be moved into her condo and what would be put in storage. When the movers came, they packed everything accordingly and, to everyone’s complete pleasure, arrived with everything intact, in perfect condition, and with items correctly sorted for move-in and for storage. I cannot sing the praises of www.localmovers.com enough. Their help and advice made a stressful and unsettling task easy, smooth, and completely successful! long distance moving company, moving company |
