| FASHION is an art reflecting life. Now and again we hear the names of Nina Rici, Paco Rabanne, Denim Paul Gautier, Giorgio Armani etc. There designers have a tremendous influence on our hair styles, how we dress up, the way we put on makeup and even behave. Gurus of fashion determine our choice of clothing every season. There are several very significant events in the fashion calendar known as fashion weeks. Fashion weeks are held each season for fashion houses to exhibit their latest collections in runway shows and for buyers to take a look at the latest fashions. The most important thing is that they demonstrate the industry what is in fashion and what is out of fashion for the season. The largest fashion weeks are held in the fashion capitals, including Milan, London, New York and Paris where luxury clothes (also called haute couture) are displayed. Haute Couture is a French word combination for expensive and fashionable clothes. Couture means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework, whereas haute denotes sophisticated. Haute couture clothes are made for a specific customer from high-quality, expensive fabrics and sewn by hand often using time-consuming techniques. So, couture clothes are luxurious and chic. Dependent on the haute couture fashion house and the garment, the cost of a couture item varies from $10, 000 for a blouse to $40, 000 and usually beyond that sum. The cost is so high because of service, work, an exclusive design and first-class fabrics of the finest quality. Furthermore, every client will get a garment to fit them well. It takes around 100-150 hours to make a handmade couture suit and up to 1000 hours for an evening dress adorned with thousands of beads sewn by hand. A haute couture house like Chanel, for instance, will have about 150 regular customers buying couture garments, and a couture house like Dior will make around 20 couture wedding dresses every year Haute couture houses use only expensive luxurious fabrics, including expensive silks, fine wools, cashmeres, cottons, linens, leather, suede and furs. Along with clothes, well-renowned haute couture houses make exclusive luxurious accessories, such as hats, buttons, belts, gems, footwear, handbags. Those who can afford couture garments are happy to pay for exclusivity and the privacy guaranteed by the system. |
