| There is truly something intoxicating about the sound of waves washing up against the side of a boat. Perhaps it’s the sun beaming down, or the deep blue that calms the most upheaval spirit, but the result is the same: pure enjoyment. Each of us gets into a boat with different expectations—fun, friends, fishing—but we all get on a boat, because the experience is always different than on land. Whether you travel the waters for personal enjoyment, hopes of that next great catch, or to entertain family and friends, at some point you start looking at your boat. Is it as stylish as the others on the water? Would a different feature add to the experience? Maybe you jumped on buying a boat before considering the size of the body of water. You should have gone with the deep V. With the economy being as it is, coupled with the rise in fuel costs, many avid boaters have had to sell their loved toys. While this is heartbreaking for them, it’s quite a breath of fresh air for the rest of us. While before, if you wanted a great deal on a boat, you would probably wait until winter to go shopping, now even during the spring time, you can often find a great deal. For many, the only important factor about a new boat is that it’s new to the person buying it. If it was previously used, as long as it was well-maintained, it doesn’t matter. Upgrade or downgrade, it will still get you out on the water. It’s often fun to buy a used boat for little cost and then fix it up to the boat of your dreams (minus the price tag). However, for others, we only have a certain amount of time we can allot to our favorite pastime. Unfortunately, that means if we want the boat of our dreams, we’re going to have to find it “as is,” or the beautiful sea-creature will never actually have time to get on the water. So, we buy brand new. Not everyone can afford this luxury, but with some financial planning, and strict budgeting, the rewards are oh-so-pleasurable if you do manage it. If you’re not (yet) in that brand-new boat club, you’re still in plenty of great company. Many have been there before you and many will continue to be there after you. If you’re ready to take the plunge and find a used boat , either for the first time, or just to get into something different, you should check out the “Used Boat Buyers’ Guide.” The link is located below this article. It is immensely helpful for beginning and seasoned boat-owners, alike. It’s one of those resources you’ll probably want to tell your friends about when they asked how you got into such a great used boat! (Or you can keep the little secret for yourself.) Regardless, the point is that boating is a unique experience. I do not know any boat-owners that regret adding the wet fun to their lifestyle. Whether you do so on a used or new boat is simply a matter of personal preference. You don’t have to be rich to own a boat. You just have to be willing to do your homework to get into the best boat that fits your budget. Boat Classifieds, The Boat Guy Blog |
