We enjoy music, for it effects our state of mind and imagination, truly reflects our inner state and character, arouses profound emotions and makes us think. It helps us relieve stress or obtain new sources of energy. When talking about music we commonly mean songs. Lyrics and melodies make up songs. Numerous studies have demonstrated that words considerably impact upon our way of thinking, behaviour and mood, and largely unconsciously. Favorite songs are played over and over, hence effecting our understanding of the world and people aroun us and awakening our feelings. Lyrics are the most recognizable constituent of any song. It differs one song from another. It makes it appealing to listeners. Surely, there is also the beat which makes a song sound unique. But lyrics are a lot easier to remember compared to instrumental music. Moreover, they can be easily translated to somebody else. Thus, you will quicker find a CD, if you remember some key words of a song you have heard over the radio. Lyrics are a significant component of any song which fans pay special attention to. Nevertheless, there are good and bad lyrics. Good lyrics are understandable and clear to a wide circle of listeners, because they touch upon crucial life situations and tell moving life stories. Bad lyrics chiefly concentrate upon trivial things that are of little importance and have no deep meaning. Sometimes they are simple slogans one step away from sheer gibberish. A lot of music fans search for songs which have meanings. Hence, good lyrics together with pleasantly sounded melodies turn a song into a musical masterwork which will be listened to over and over by people of different age and nationalities and passed down from generation to generation. |
