| Who wouldn’t want to look gorgeously flawless like Katie Holmes or Nicole Kidman? With the right techniques and secret makeup tips, you too can look just as glamorous for any main event coming up – think black tie events and weddings. One of the best makeup tips that every woman should know is how to highlight her face. We are talking about using highlighting products to accentuate and draw attention to the face. Done correctly, highlighting can make your eyes ‘pop’ and your cheekbones appear more prominent. Done badly, highlighting can make your face look shiny and almost greasy in photographs. The correct makeup tips for this technique are to make sure your face is primed properly with moisturizer, foundation, primer and then powder. Use a large dusting brush and sweep highlighter on your brow bones and the very top of your cheekbones, just underneath the eyes. Take the highlighter from your cheek (roughly below the center of your pupil) and sweep in an upward and around motion to your temples – almost like a ‘C’ shape. Next, lightly dust highlighter down your nose and very lightly across the forehead and chin. This will ensure your face catches the light in the best places. Your highlighter itself should have a slight shimmer to it, not glittery though, as glitter is more suited to a girly party than a glamorous event. Other makeup tips which should really make you stand out include contouring your cheekbones to make them look more defined. The best way to do this is to sweep a flat shade of bronzer (avoid shimmer) with an angled blusher brush into the hollows of your cheeks. To get the hollow, suck your cheekbones in, and where your cheeks dent inwards, this is where you want to place the bronzer – from your hollow to your hairline. Keep your hand light, you should have just enough color to make the cheekbones look more defined, but not so much that it is glaringly obvious what you are doing! For some final makeup tips, ensure you dust bronzer under your chin to disguise a double chin. Wear eyeliner penciled into the waterline and lining the entire eye to give your eyes a dramatic look. Always focus on either the eyes or the lips to avoid looking like you’re in drag! If your eyes are dramatic, keep lips nude or use a light gloss. If you are keeping a strong red mouth, stick to black eyeliner and top liner with mascara on the eyes. Avoid using eye shadow unless it is a nude color or a pale gold. Think Angelina Jolie who is famed for her black liner and red lips. Hopefully, these makeup tips will have shown you how to get the look that celebrities use when attending high-profile events. The most important thing though is to experiment and see what works for you. The Event Makeup Artist |
