| You have two options to choose from: duplication or replication when you want a video presentation reproduced for distribution. The next few paragraphs will tackle on the difference between the two. Disc replication is composed of a number of phases and performed in the controlled environment of a factory. The data source is inputted into to a hi-speed server & verified for errors initially. A compact disc or an Exabyte tape is the medium of the data source. The glass master is then produced. This is prepared by stripping, cleaning, washing, drying, painting with a primer & baking before being subjected to the laser. After that, the data is recorded by a laser & copy protection is employed. Pits are created in a photo resistant tier and then metalized in a sputtering process. Stampers are then formed, the father stamper first thru electroforming, then the mother stamper is molded from the father stamper. The stampers are checked for quality, punched off to the correct diameter, and then used as molds by a hydraulic press. The polycarbonate base is then injected into the mold forming the transparent disc. A reflective coating is metalized into it and a coat of lacquer is applied for protection, and then offset or screen prints are layered atop it. Disc duplication is much simpler much like the way you write discs in your computer, except stacks of CD/DVD writers are used. The primary factor to think when trying to decide which reproduction will suit ones needs best. The length of time allotted to production, the budget available, and the number of discs to be reproduced are these factors. It is best to use replication if a thousand discs or more are required. Offset printing will be applied on the discs and they will have the same quality as those produced by recording companies. However, if the aforementioned total of one thousand discs will be composed of 10 different titles with 100 copies each and then duplication is the only option to consider. The set up of replication equipment is quite costly and it requires the creation of glass masters. Expenses can only be taken up if the production is done in large quantities, which will also afford a lower price per disc. Let us just say that one requires the discs in the next two days where there would be a trade show. At this time table, only a duplication job would be possible. The shortest time probable for disc replication would be about 10 working days, give or take a few. For speed jobs, duplication is the only option. Printing process applied for duplication is inkjet or silkscreen printing, whereas for replication offset printing is used. In CD/DVD duplication, you need to stack up on countryman microphones which we can supply. We also have a wide variety of electronics like CD/DVD duplicators, as well as blank cds. |
