| The term puppet generally brings up an association with kids because modern puppet theater is for the most part oriented on the kids audience. This sort of theater originates from ancient times. Hand puppet dolls are composed of a head made of wide range of materials, such as wood, papier-mache or cardboard, and a body constituting a cloth in the form of glove that is put on the hand of puppeteer. By moving fingers the puppeteer makes the puppet doll animated. One of the varieties of hand puppets is finger puppet dolls. As it's evident from the term such puppets are put on fingers. They are small and look like toys for kids. Another widespread kind of puppets is represented by marionettes. Marionette is a puppet doll with strings attached to various parts of its body. By means of pulling the strings puppeteer can manipulate the puppet and make it move. Marionettes are applied both as an entertainment tool and in professional puppet performances. There is one more amazing kind of puppets called shadow puppets. A shadow puppet is a flat figure located between a source of light and a translucent screen in order to produce shadow. Shadow theater was invented in Asia more than 1500 years ago. It used to gain great popularity in various parts of the world. Today shadow theater is extremely popular in Indonesia. |
